The two-wheel word game
Open this wheel and the letter wheel in two tabs. Spin a letter, then spin a category. Everyone has 30 seconds to write an answer that fits both: B and Animals could be bear, bat or badger.
Score a point for every answer nobody else wrote. Play ten rounds and the highest score wins. It works with two players or a whole class.
Other ways to use it
- Quiz nights: spin to choose the topic for the next round.
- Name five: spin and name five things in that category before the timer runs out.
- Writing: spin two categories and write a short story that uses both.
- Speaking practice in a language lesson: spin and say as many words as you can in that category.
Making it harder or easier
For younger players keep broad categories like Animals and Foods. For adults, swap in narrower ones: Things you find in a garden shed, Famous scientists, Capital cities, or Words that rhyme with cat. Keep each one short so it fits on its slice.
Questions
Is this the same as a topic wheel?
Yes. Topic wheel and category wheel are the same thing: a wheel of subjects to talk, write or play about.
Can I add my own categories?
Yes. Clear the list and type your own, one per line. For a class, try the topics from this term, such as Rivers, Volcanoes and Rainforests, so every round is revision too.
What is a good number of categories?
Around 15 to 25 gives plenty of variety while keeping every label readable on the wheel.
