Spin-Wheel.org is a free classroom wheel spinner and random name picker. Teachers paste a class list, spin to pick a student and take each name off after their turn. It also runs raffles, team picks and quick decisions. There is no signup.
What it does
- Paste a whole list: One name per line, or a comma-separated list. You can also import a .txt or .csv file.
- Remove Winner from List: Take a name off after their turn, so the next spin only picks from the people left.
- Up to 3 winners at once: Press 1, 2 or 3 next to Winners and one spin picks that many, ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
- Present mode: Fills the screen with just the wheel, for a projector or classroom board.
- Auto-fill: Type a topic and it suggests 20 items and a background picture. Edit them before you spin.
- Keep a wheel as a link: Share Link to This Wheel puts your list inside a link. Bookmark it to use the wheel again. Nothing is stored between visits.
- Share the result: Download the winner as an image, or the whole spin as a video.
- Results list: The Results tab lists every spin in this visit, newest first. It clears when you close the tab.
- Wheel settings: Five color sets (Default, Warm, Cool, Earth and Grays) or your own slice colors, and a spin length from 4 to 12 seconds.
- Sort and Shuffle: Put the list in alphabetical order or mix it up.
- Sound on or off: The speaker button in the corner of the wheel.
What people use it for
- Classrooms: Calling on students, presentation order, groups and partners, class jobs and review games.
- Raffles and giveaways: Several winners in ranked order, with the spin recorded as a video.
- Teams and meetings: Who speaks first, who takes notes, mixing up groups.
- Everyday choices: Where to eat, what to watch, who does which chore.
There are also ready-made wheels for things like yes or no, numbers, letters and team picks, each filled in and ready to spin.
How the pick is made
Every name gets an equal slice. Each spin draws from the browser's own cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so no item is weighted and the result cannot be predicted in advance. A name only comes up more often if it is on the wheel more than once. More on how the pick works.
What the site keeps
There are no accounts and nothing is stored: a wheel is kept as its share link. Your list stays in your browser tab while you use it. If you use Auto-fill, only the topic you type is sent to our server. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits. It works the same on phone, tablet, laptop and classroom board. The privacy policy has the details.
Who builds this
Spin-Wheel.org is built and run by one person, Sam Hunt. I wanted a spinner that opens straight onto the wheel, with no account and no ads, and that a teacher can paste a class list into and use in front of a class.
If something is wrong or a feature is missing, email me. My other work is at samuelbuilds.co.uk. I also make The Clock, which has a classroom timer, and Temp Mail.
Free, with no signup
No fee and no limit on spins or names. Auto-fill is limited to a few requests a minute.
