Ways to use it
- Warm up: spin and draw for five minutes before the main art task.
- Sketchbook habit: one spin a day, one drawing a day.
- Drawing race: everyone draws the same prompt in two minutes, then compare.
- Guess the drawing: one person spins in secret and draws while the others guess.
Make it harder
Spin twice and combine the two prompts. Add a rule from another wheel: use only the colour from the random colour wheel, or draw an animal from the animal wheel in the style of the prompt. Draw with your other hand, or without lifting the pen.
Your own prompts
Replace the list with prompts for your topic: Victorian objects, things from a story you are reading, or characters your class has invented. Short, concrete ideas work best. A cat in a spacesuit is easier to start than "freedom".
Questions
What age is this for?
Any age. The prompts are simple enough for young children and open enough for adults.
Can I add my own prompts?
Yes. Clear the list and add your own, one per line.
Can I stop prompts repeating?
Yes. Press Remove Winner from List after each spin. With one drawing a day, the 20 prompts cover four school weeks.
