Day of the Week Wheel

    Winners

Spin for a random day from Monday to Sunday. Plan something, set a rota, or practise the days in class.

    Plans and rotas

    • Pick the night for takeaway, a film or a games evening.
    • Choose the day for a task you keep putting off, then put it in the calendar.
    • Weekday only? Remove Saturday and Sunday from the list.
    • Rota: give each person a day by spinning and removing the day once it is taken.

    Where the names come from

A good one to read out after each spin in class:

    • Monday: the Moon's day.
    • Tuesday: Tiw's day, after an old Germanic god of war.
    • Wednesday: Woden's day, the Old English name for Odin.
    • Thursday: Thor's day.
    • Friday: Frigg's day, after the wife of Odin.
    • Saturday: Saturn's day, the only one named after a Roman god.
    • Sunday: the Sun's day.

    Early years games

Spin and say the day. Then ask what comes next, what came before, and what you do at school or at home on that day. For older children, add the days in French or Spanish. To pick a month instead, use the month wheel.
